OHAFC V's Conway Albion
2 - 1

Old House got off to a poor start and were 1 - 0 down after only 5 minutes. The goal came from a corner and slack marking at the back-post, which led to a low header that the keeper, Chris Johnson, got a finger to, but not enough to keep it out. Conway Albion had several other good chances over the next 20 minutes, but poor finishing and firm hands by Johnson kept them at bay. After 35 minutes, Albion left the Old House defence standing with a great move and were one-on-one with the keeper, but, again, couldn't finish. Their striker beat the keeper, but found only the crossbar. The half finished with just one goal seperating the two sides.

The second half began in much the same way as the first ended. Albion having the better of the chances and Old House just seeming to allow them to play. Old House's best chance of the game so far came 10 minutes in, with a good strike from Martin Butler, but he couldn't find the target. Butler had another chance soon after with a free-kick 20 yards out, but agin couldn't keep it on target. Guy Taylor also wasted an almost identical chance five minutes later. Despite much improved effort from Old House, Conway Albion nearly doubled their lead when Johnson came rushing out of his area and was lobbed by the oncoming striker. Old House were only saved by a dramatic clearence off the line from Dave Banks, who came rushing back in and managed to save Johnsons pride. Old House continued to pile on the pressure and Nathan Roberts went close after he chased down a ball that looked long-lost, but he connected with it and dragged it across in front of the goal mouth, but no-one was there to tuck it away. Roberts also saw another chance go saliing over the bar almost immediately after. With only 2 minutes of the game left, Butler sprang up out of nowhere and planted it past the keeper to take the game to extra time, but there was another twist in the tale to come. Straight from the kick-off with only seconds of the game remaining, Butler struck again to take Old House to their first victory of the season and the second round of the Senior Cup. Final score 2 - 1.

A real boost after a difficult start to the season. Can Old House take this first victory forward into next week's game against newly promoted Rowood? Can this rebuilt and revitalised team mirror or even improve on the former success of the club? Watch this space...
