A perfect day for football and 15 players turning up on time led to high hopes for Old House Athletic in this quarter final. Court Celtic went close after only 2 minutes, but their striker pulled it wide of the Old House keeper, Chris Staite, right-hand post. After sustained pressure, Court did score after 20 minutes. A good strike that Staite got his hand to but couldn't keep out of the net. A free-kick from close to the half-way line just after the half-hour for Court Celtic fooled Staite and snuck under the bar to push them two goals in front. After an honest half-time discussion and a change of formation, Old House took to the pitch and started to look immediately more dangerous than at any time in the whole first half. Ashley Pawson's free-kick from the half-way line went narrowly over the bar and soon after second-half substitute, Dan shledon, flicked a volley wide of the target. Sheldon had another golden opportunity with 20 minutes left, but it ran just wide of the Court Celtic post. With only 2 minutes remainnig, a goal for Old House was flagged offside by the linesman which the referee upheld and condemned Old House to cup misery. All chances of winning anything this season now gone leaves us with only pride left to play for. Currently 9th in the league but with the possibility of finishing in 7th. Is a minimum of 6 points needed from the remaining four games too much to ask for? Our current league form leaves us just short of that target. Who knows, who cares? DO YOU?
