OHAFC V's Smithswood Colts
2 - 4

The last goal of the season saw a tired performance from Old House. They went a goal behind after only 8 minutes from a long ball and a quick break. This was the only action in an otherwise forgettable first half.

Guy T went close 10 minutes into the second half with a free kick from 20 yrds out, but it skipped just wide of the keepers right-hand post. Smithswood went further in front soon after this. Smithswood carried on pushing and missed two sitters over the following minutes. The first was rfom 8 yards out and their striker scuffed it wide. Another from a perfectly-placed corner found a Colts player virtually on the goal line, only to see him spoon it over the crossbar. Continued poor marking from Old House allowed three Smithswood to line up for a shot on the edge of the box. The first shot hit the crossbar and the shot from the rebound was skillfully pushed wide for a corner by Old House keeper, Chris Johnson. With about 10 minutes of the game remaining and neither side on great form it look as if this was the way it would stay. It did, until Johnson took a free kick on the edge of his area, which was met by a Smithswood player on thehalf way line, who controlled it without being challanged and smashed it in for a goal to put Old House three behind. Straight away, from another GK not challanged again, Smithswood buried another to make it 4 - 0. This final insult saw Old House finally react and start to push for the ball. A superb ball in from Dan Fox, 2 minutes from time, met Guy Homer's head and he netted for his fourth goal in as many games, bringing the score back to 4 - 1. Old House then seemed to take the inititave and started closing down in the midfield and straight from the kick-off, won the ball and put Nathan through on goal, which he calmly finishedto make it 4 - 2. The comeback was too late and within seconds the referee blew the final whistle for the end of the game and of Old House's season.

A long summer awaits until pre-season training. Can Old House push for promotion next season? Can we put our better performances together to maintain some consistency? Will we field the same 11 more than once next season? Get some rest lads, lets do it even better next season. Until then, keep an eye on the site for training and friendly dates, social occasions and more of Homer's dodgy dating weblinks!!
